Whats the difference between A2 and A4 stainless steel and more importantly which one is right for you?

A2 Stainless Steel

A2 304 Stainless steel - the most commonly used stainless steel grade - also called 18/8 - with outstanding corrosion resistance under normal atmospheric conditions, in wet surroundings, oxidizing and organic acids, many alkali and salt solutions. As a laymans rule of thumb A2 stainless steel is ideal for external fixings where they are not continually submerged below water.

A4 Stainless Steel

A4 316 Stainless steel - the most corrosion resistant steel grade - also called “acid proof” - with an increased nickel percentage and addition of molybdenum. Better resistance to aggressive, corrosive environments such as sea climate (chlorides), industrial atmosphere (sulphure dioxide), oxidizing acids and there where pitting may occur. A4 is ideal for marine and coastal environments and where constant submersion below water is required.
